Huge public response to street campaign!

Campaigners against the Council’s proposals to make huge increases to charges for social care were out in Kingston and New Malden town centres on Saturday 8 January. When we explained to shoppers and passers-by that Kingston Council is planning to charge us a huge amount for basic care, most were really interested. We collected hundreds of signatures on the petition and gave out lots of flyers.

Disabled and older people and our supporters turned out in force. We had seasoned campaigners, including Baroness Campbell of Surbiton and Ann Macfarlane OBE, and several other disabled and older people who braved the biting wind to tell the public what the council wants to do.

  1. Well done to you all Jane. Look forward to seeing the pics and will share them online to help raise awareness.

  2. it seems incredible that disabled people are still having to struggle for fairness in this day and age. i really fear for the future as this is just one example. i hope that this action will shame other councils considering cuts to disabled people and their services to think again.
