1579-signature petition presented to Kingston Council

On Tuesday 18 January a petition of 1579 signatures was presented to Full Council and Jane Young spoke for 5 minutes on behalf of the campaign group. This was then followed by a 30-minute debate in which several councillors spoke. Councillor Penny Shelton indicated that the council was attempting to reduce the proportion of people’s disposable income taken in charges from 100% to 75%. We welcome this move but are still very concerned about other worrying aspects of the proposals.

The meeting of Full Council is reported by the Kingston Informer at http://www.kingstoninformer.co.uk/2011/01/care-campaign-petition-handed.html and by the Surrey Comet at http://www.surreycomet.co.uk/news/8804138.Council_modifies_home_care_charges_hike_after_protests/
